Dublin Port Company will host the 2017 Riverfest during the June bank holiday from Friday 2nd June until Monday 5th June. The festival is centred on the gathering of sailing vessels and the hosting of land and water based activities. The water borne activities will be hosted between the Thomas Clark / East Link Bridge and the Samuel Beckett Bridge. This area has been named as Area 4 continuing the theme of the Guide to Leisure Craft Entering Dublin Port. West of the Samuel Beckett bridge to the Matt Talbot Bridge has been named as Area 5.
Area 4 and Area 5 will be controlled by the Water Controller from 1200-1800 on Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th who will operate in a VTS capacity on VHF CH13, call sign: Water Control.
- The Water Controller will operate with the authority of the Harbour Master and will issue result oriented instructions when required.
- The control will apply to the Areas 4 & 5 thereby affecting any commercial vessel or leisure craft within the Areas.
- Some of the waterborne activities will involve a display by high speed water craft. During this time the Water Controller will ensure there is no movement of other craft in Area 4.
- Dependent on traffic volume and to ensure the safety of river users the Water Controller may limit the access by vessels to Area 4 and Area 5.
- In the event of a waterborne incident or any land based incident with the ability to impact the water environment, the Water Controller will command and control resources liaising with the Irish Coast Guard and the Harbour Master and will stop all proceedings on the water, thereby focusing key resources on the emergency incident.
All vessels must maintain a listening watch on VHF CH12 when operating with the east of the East Link Bridge and must change to VHF CH13 to request entry to Area 4.
