We have had some great news from Irish Sailing that in July we will be able to return to a much more ‘traditional’ type of course and open up to many more sailors. Social distancing, sanitising and closure of much of the club will be something we will have to live with for a while yet. We will continue to ask sailors to come down ready to sail, as we will not have access to showering facilities, for the moment.
For those kids who were on Course A, next week is not a writeoff! We will be carrying on as before in order to continue with tier sailing until we can get the double handers back to “normal” on July 6th. From July 6th we will be able to sail in pods – this means we can run double handed sailing and possible some 1720 clinics. The pod idea means we will have continuity of sailor pairings and instructors, there will be no swapping in and out of boats as has been the case in years gone by. It will be more like normal but definitely a new normal!!
We will also be offering SUP board courses, morning and afternoon sessions. These will be run by a qualified SUP coach and he can accommodate kids from the age of 10 upwards, obviously an ability to swim is a pre requisite here, but unlike the sailing courses it’s the only one!!
We will send everyone the links to courses as we develop them for July 6th onwards along with a detailed updated next week.
NEXT WEEK JUNE 29TH – JULY 3RD
If you are interested in signing your experienced sailor (must be able to self rescue) up for next weeks sailing courses please use the links below and we will be in touch on Sunday evening with course timings. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SAILORS SIGNING UP FOR NEXT WEEKS COURSES MUST BE AT IMPROVING SKILLS LEVEL AND BE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO SELF RESCUE. For next week only we cannot accomodate any sailors not at Improving Skills levels (unless they do the SUP sessions).
Questions? Please email Richard at juniorsailing@rsgyc.ie and cc: Sailing@rsgyc.ie and we will endevour to answer them.
The courses on offer next week are the same as course A:
Stand up Paddle Boarding Sessions. These will be 2.5hr sessions, if your child has their own board or access to a board we recommend they bring it along. NOTE- no prior experience is required for the SUP sessions. A long wetsuit and lifejackets/ buoyancy aids are required.
