From Harry Hermon, CEO, Irish Sailing
Update: Wednesday 31 March 2021
Following An Taoiseach’s announcement yesterday on the further releasing of restrictions under Level 5, we are obviously disappointed that we have not been given a clear pathway to facilitate the planning for the reopening of our sports, however in the current Covid environment we fully understand the need for the cautious approach being taken by Government.
The intent of the restrictions still, is to avoid personal contact and gatherings as much as possible. We have some queries that we hope to get clarity on next week, however as we understand it the main points of the current level 5 enhancements as they affect Irish Sailing activities are:
From 12th April
- You can travel within your own county or within 20km of your home if crossing county boundaries
From 26th April:
- Outdoor sports facilities can reopen and sailing clubs may remain open.
- Sailing activities may take place between a maximum of two households
- School aged children may resume training using the pod system (pods of 15)
- No matches or events may take place (other than exempted events)
There is no change to the restrictions for the Operation of ports and harbours which are deemed essential. Any service required for the safe provision of a service for the operation of ports and harbours is allowed.
We are seeking some clarity in particular around activities allowed for ‘distanced’ sport and training and will publish further updates as soon as we have them.
Until then any queries may be addressed to harry@sailing.ie

There are also FAQ’s which have been updated and can be viewed here.
As per the above links the RSGYC has suspended all scheduled training and sailing activities, and are not permitted to offer the use of Club craft until further notice. Individual sailors and same household sailors can sail for exercise purposes only but no group activities are permitted.
We will update you as we hear more- in the meantime stay safe folks and feel free to contact us with any queries that you may have.
