Introduction to Powerboating Course (Level 1) €145
The aim of this course, which is run to Irish Sailing’s syllabus, is to provide a short practical and basic introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats.
At the end of this 1 day course you will know how to prepare the boat for use, be aware of the correct clothing & equipment, have basic boat handling skills, know the basics for boat planing and maneuvering, leaving and coming alongside, securing to a mooring buoy, the basics for anchoring and man-over-board retrieval.
We will also briefly cover the application of “Rules of the Road”, regulations, safety on board, rope work, towing and weather. Some reference will be made to navigation & pilotage and coastal knowledge.
At the end of the very packed 1 day session you will be ready for the 2 day National Powerboat Course where you will then command the powerboat.
National Powerboat Certificate (NPC) Course (Level 2) €295
The objective of the NPC is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to safely, and effectively, skipper an open powerboat, by day, on inland and coastal waters with which the participant is familiar. This course is a natural follow-on from the Introduction to Powerboating course, and you are expected to have the associated basic skills before participating in the NPC. The minimum age is 16.
This course is run to Irish Sailing’s syllabus, and is packed with hands-on practical content, and the theory portion is dealt with in class-room style.
At the end of the course you will be capable of preparing the boat for use, be aware of the correct clothing & equipment, achieve effective boat handling skills, engines/drives and hulls, know the basics for boat planing and maneuvering, leaving and coming alongside, securing to a mooring buoy, the basics for anchoring and be capable of retrieving a man-over-board.
We will also cover the application of “Rules of the Road”, regulations, safety on board, rope work, towing and weather. We will learn basic navigation & pilotage and coastal knowledge.
Generally, the Instructor will use continual assessment to ensure that the participant is aware of their strengths and weaknesses before a Certificate is provided.
